This page concentrates on newsworthy events and stories in the wider local community that affect the residents of the village, such as bus timetable changes, news from the village surgery, shop and L’arte. It also shares news from the 2 Universities. TVRA specific news can be found under the separate Menu item (above)
BCP will soon be starting major works in Central Bournemouth to transform the area where you catch your bus. During this time, you won’t be able to access your usual bus stops. This notably affects the U4, 6 and 17 buses from the village.
But don’t worry, you can find all of the information you need on the MORE buses website – just follow the links below for maps and full details about where to catch your bus from. There are also some leaflets available in the Village shop from Carrie and the buses seem to have leaflets on some services too.
There are two sets of changes, so please read carefully.
Changes from 18-22 May (ONE WEEK ONLY)
FOR ONE WEEK ONLY between Monday 18 and Friday 22 May, Westover Road will be closed for resurfacing. NO BUSES will use Westover Road and buses will only run in one direction through Gervis Place. As a result, some buses will go from different stops. Find out where to catch your bus below.
Also from Saturday 23 May, the summer timetable changes come into place.

Many of us have received a new brown food waste bin from BCP Council. There has been a lot of online comments so Jo, our chair, wanted to share some information about how the service works and why it’s being introduced.
• The brown food waste bins are lockable, so they are designed to prevent vermin getting in.
• When used correctly, they do not smell, food waste should be bagged (liners can be used) and the lid kept closed.
• Food waste is collected weekly, on the same day as your normal rubbish and recycling.
• It is collected by a separate lorry, not mixed with general waste.
• The waste is taken to a specialist recycling facility, currently in Piddlehinton, Dorset, with a new local facility being built at Hurn.
Why this is happening?
This service is being funded by the Dept for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs as part of the UK Government’s Simpler Recycling reforms. The aim is to reduce landfill, cut emissions and make better use of waste we all currently throw away.
Even small amounts matter, things like banana skins, tea bags, plate scrapings all add up. By recycling food waste, it can be turned into energy, reduce greenhouse gases and even help support local farming. Instead of rotting in landfill, food waste is put to productive use.
What if you don’t want the bin?
BCP have said they encourage everyone to use the service but you can request its removal if you choose.
My honest view. I would genuinely encourage people to give it a try, even if you’re sceptical. Many other areas have had food waste collections for years and find it quickly becomes routine.
My only real concern is that I sincerely hope this does not lead to any future reduction in black bin collections. A fortnightly collection is already challenging for families, particularly those with children, nappies, or medical waste. Any move to extend that further would risk hygiene issues, smells and increased fly-tipping and that would not be acceptable.

Now that the Universities are back in full swing after the new year, this is just a reminder to re-iterate that all coffee shops and food venues as well as the shop are open to the general public if you wish to visit at any time during the week.
We have already used the food outlet in the Fusion Building. I can heartily recommend the Fish and Chips on a Friday – good portions and very good value!!

The library is also open to use, you would need to bring along a form of photograph ID and the library will issue you with a card.
